Which Is More Recommended For Dieting, Drinking Cold Water or Warm Water

Some say that drinking cold water is more effective in helping the diet process compared to drinking warm water. However, is this assumption correct?

To lose weight, the most common way to do is exercise every day, maintain food intake, and meet the needs of body fluids.

In order to lose weight fast, some people choose to drink cold water. They believe that drinking cold water burns more calories than drinking warm water. In fact this is not entirely true.

Cold water and warm water are the same

The notion that drinking cold water will burn more calories may stem from the belief that the body will burn calories to maintain a stable body temperature.

When drinking cold water, the body will indeed try to raise the body temperature to stay in the range of 37°C. However, the calories burned for these activities are only about 8-15 calories. This amount is considered very small impact on weight loss.

Most calories are burned when the body is performing basic functions, such as breathing, circulating blood throughout the body, digesting nutrients, or producing cells, and more when you are exercising.

Benefits of Drinking Water for Diet

Apart from the problem of water temperature which is believed to be able to burn more calories in the body, drinking lots of water is indeed recommended if you want to lose weight.

Adult men are advised to drink 2,500 milliliters of water per day, while adult women are 2,350 milliliters per day.

Drinking more water when dieting makes you feel full longer, reduces cravings, and helps the kidneys flush toxins and waste from the body.

However, don’t drink too much water. Drinking too much water can actually lower sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia) and make it difficult for the kidneys to get rid of excess water. This condition can be life threatening.

In addition to drinking lots of water, losing weight must also be balanced by taking the following steps:

  • Daily breakfast
  • Eat at the same time every day
  • Eat lots of vegetables and fruits
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eating high-fiber foods, such as bread or pasta made from whole grains, beans, and legumes
  • Read food labels to find out how many calories they contain
  • Eat on a small plate
  • Avoid fast food
  • Reduce alcohol consumption

Drinking cold water, warm water, or room temperature water are equally good in helping you lose weight. You are free to choose the desired and preferred drinking water temperature.

Keep in mind, before you start drinking more water to lose weight, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor first to get advice that suits your condition.
